Okay, well be honest...

We have no real idea what the historic or cultural significance of the Pantheon is.  But, it was only a few blocks from the hotel, so it made for a very convenient first stop after we'd checked in.

And it was impressive.  The photos don't really give you much in the sense of scale of this place.  Check the close-ups of a couple, and notice how big the people are.

All around the insides are murals of famous parts of French history, and there was a crypt in the basement where the bodies of famous French people are.  Unfortunately, they didn't bother having anything in a different language!

Part of the tour took us up around the top balcony of the building, which gave us our first real view of Notre Dame.  Our hotel was located about half way between there and the Pantheon.

In general, we found the people in France to be not quite as rude as we'd expected.  But there was certainly a distinct air of presumed superiority which served to wear you down over time.  There was no interest in having anything in any other language.

All over America we have signs in multiple languages.  Pretty much every exhibit in our nation's capital is that way, as a courtesy to our many foreign visitors.  The same courtesy was extended by exhibits in England.  Ditto Germany.

The French, apparently, could care less.

The photos on the left show four murals along the inside walls of the Pantheon.  Each of these must have been 15 feet tall.  As you can probably guess, they show four stages in the life of Joan of Arc.
